Environmental Performance

Improved air quality

  • When used in modern truck engines, LNG can produce significantly less PM and Nitrogen Oxides than equivalent diesel engines
  • Australian Government sponsored testing of Australia’s first (>450HP) ADR 80/02 compliant LNG engine produced the following results, when compared to the equivalent ADR 80/02 diesel engine
  • More than 90% reduction in PM
  • at least a 10% reduction in NOx.

Less noise

Natural gas vehicles are noticeably quieter to operate when compared to equivalent diesel powered vehicles. This makes them particularly suitable for urban fleet operators specialising in overnight deliveries
and other noise sensitive locations.

Reduced Greenhouse Gas production

  • Modern Natural Gas engines produce less carbon dioxide than the equivalent modern diesel engines
  • Australian Government sponsored testing highlighted that an ADR80/02 15-Litre LNG engine produced 25% less greenhouse gas
emissions (CO2-e) than the equivalent diesel engine
  • Accordingly, fleets can reduce their carbon footprint by adopting LNG fuelled engines

Important Note: While LNG consists primarily of methane (CH4), which is a greenhouse gas contributor, modern natural gas fuel systems and engine combustion processes combine to ensure that little or no methane escapes from the vehicle or during normal operation or during the refuelling process.
